Rathi Nirvedam launched The puja for the remake of the cult film ‘Rathinirvedam’was held on Friday. K.P.A.C. Lalitha, Radhalakshmi and Rajamma (spouses of Bharathan, Padmarajan and producer Haripothen respectively) lighted the lamp with their sons Sidharth, Anantha Pathmanabhan and Asad. Krishnachandran, who played the lead role of Appu in the original, and cameraman Ramachandra Babu were present.

The film is produced by Suresh Kumar and directed by T.K. Rajeev Kumar. Shwetha will don Jayabharathi's role.

Shanta Devi passes away Malayalam film actress Kozhikode Shanta Devi (85) passed away in a private hospital in Kozhikode. She is the wife of great singer Kozhikode Abdul Khader. She is stay alived by a son.

Her body kept at the Kozhikode Town Hall for the public to pay homage. Kozhikode District Collector Dr. P.B. Salim placed a wreath on behalf of Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan. Later, the funeral took place this afternoon in Mavoor, Kozhikode.

Kapil Dev in ‘Mazhavillinapurathekku’Indian cricketer Kapil Dev is getting ready to try his luck in Malayalam movies. His first in Mollywood will be ‘Mazhavillinapurathekku’ to be directed by Kaithapram.

The movie will feature him along with the Pakistan opening batsman Mohd. Hafiz, who will be doing the lead role. Bollywood actor Suniel Shetty is also expected to do a key role in the film. Other cast will include Nedumudi, Mamukkoya, Anoop Chandran, Suraj and Siddiq.

‘Mazhavillinapurathekku’ will have two heroines, debutante Krishna and Archana Kavi. The shoot for the movie is expected to kick off by the 24th of this month at Kannur.

The movie was in news from the day of its announcement, as Pak fast bowler Mohd. Asif was initially approached to do the main role in the film. But later the actor fell prey to certain controversies and director Kaithapram decided to go a for a lead-actor change.
