Mandira Bedi becomes showstopper at Kolkata Fashion Week

Popular TV personality and cricket commentator Mandira Bedi kept the Kolkata Fashion Week-II audience spellbound as she sashayed down the ramp for the Satya Paul collection that was showcased Saturday.

An excited Mandira later told reporters: "Kolkata is my birth place. This is the first time I have walked the ramp in Kolkata. In real life the endorsements and the shows I do, I mostly wear Satya Paul saris.

"I have walked for Satya Paul in Delhi and Dubai," she said, draped in a red woven zari sari, with mock weaving with embroideries on it.

Satya Paul, the designer brand celebrating its 25th year, showcased collections based on hand weaving.

"In the first 10-15 years of our business, weaving and craftsmen have played an important role. If we don't support their livelihood they can never go ahead in their lives," said Puneet Nanda, Satya Paul's son.

Describing the collection that was exhibited as 'non-Satya Paul type', he said: "I am pleased to showcase such a collection in Kolkata as this place has a lot of respect and regard for weaving."

He has named the collection 'Resham (silk) and Zari' to highlight the weaving that goes into fabrics like woven silk as well as jacards, georgette and satin. The collection had both saris and lehengas.

Vani Kishore is a beautiful girl from the God's Own Country who is making her entry into Kollywood. The lady has been signed up for two films as of now. One is Marubadiyum Kadhal which will hit the screens soon. The other film is Sankaran Kovil which is yet to hit the floors. Reason for the delay is that the hero of the film Kanal Kannan who is said to be currently busy choreographing stunts for other films. Vani from her end is said to be excited about stepping into Kollywood.

Priyadarshan’s Kanchivaram has been reaping glories galore at the National level andPrakash Rajhas emerged as one of the most talented actors who can carry a character with much ease and poise. Well, before you jump to any conclusions, let us hear it right from Priyadarshan’s mouth, “My best friend Mohanlal was supposed to dothe film But he couldn’t as he had date problems. After that, I decided to castPrakash Raj whose fantastic performance and dialogue delivery did the magic.”


Luck has definitely favoured Prakash Raj and the filmmaker does not regret his choice, for he says, “Prakash took Kanchivaram to a different level. He was totally committed and did the film without any remuneration.” Priyan even goes onto say that he had also foreseen an award for Prakash Raj, “Immediately after watching the first copy, I told Prakash that he would get a National Award for it. Such was his performance.”
