Roja joins Congress?

Veteran South Indian actress and Telugu Desam Party Mahila president Roja visited Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy at his camp office in Hyderabad on Sunday and presented him with a bouquet. This is being rumoured to be a symbol of switching her loyalties to the Congress.

Former TTD Chairman B. Karunakara Reddy accompanied Roja during the 20-minute meeting which came less than a fortnight after she stoutly denied the Chief Minister’s remark that she had expressed willingness to join the Congress.

The actress said that she was yet to take a decision on joining the Congress, but indicated it was only a matter of time when she said, "I have no objection to work under a leader (Dr. Rajasekhara Reddy) who cares about his followers and will not leave them when they are in distress."

The actress claimed that she had met the Chief Minister to compliment him for bringing the NTPC-BHEL joint venture to Chittoor district and also dismissed reports that she had decided to quit the TDP as she was not given a prominent post. Roja had been keeping herself away from the TDP party affairs for some time now and her brothers were said to have convinced her to join the Congress.

Rumours abound that Charmee has replaced Mamta Mohandas in a Malayalam film with Dileep in the lead role,

after Mamta was diagnosed with
swine flu. “It’s true that I had to back out of the film because I’ve not been well,”
says Mamta, adding, “but I don’t have swine flu. I had a lump on my chest and had to have surgery,” she says.

Mamta is now on post-surgery medication, and won’t be shooting until mid-September. “I was keen to work in a Malayalam film. But my doctor has warned me against travelling because it could expose me to infection,” she explains.

There were also reports that Mamta was citing her illness as an excuse to avoid doing films in the south while she plans her Bollywood entry. “It’s all false. I’ll start shooting for a Telugu film with Nagarjuna sometime in September,” she clarifies.

She also has a list of directors she’d love to work with. “My list includes Priyadarshan, Vishal Bhardwaj, Karan Johar and Imtiaz Ali, among others. It is a long wish-list,” she says.

So is it true that Imtiaz, who was completely taken with her portfolio, has offered her a film? “I’ve no clue how my portfolio reached him and know nothing about him making me an offer,” Mamta says. However, she’s not ruling out B-town. “In fact, I’m starting a Bollywood film next year, but I don’t want to disclose the details,” she says.

Bollywood’s not a bad place for southern heroines, she adds. “It’s a means of reaching out to a wider audience. We have the talent for it,” she says.

Director Anwar Rasheed injured in attack

A five-member gang who attacked director Anwar Rasheed and his mother Jari Rasheed, is in police custody. The incident happened last night at his family house in Kalluvathukkal.

Both the injured have been admitted at a private hospital here. The goons attacked him as he questioned them for playing cards and having liquor at the premises of his house. Anwar?s mother was attacked when she intervened in the incident.

Anwar had directed films like Rajamanikyam, Annan Thampi etc.

Veteran actor Nedumudi Venu’s son married

Malayalam actor Nedumudi Venu’s son, Unni Venu got married on Friday. The ceremony took place at Thiruvananthapuram Subrahmanyam Hall.

He got married to Mereena, who is the daughter of James and Sushi James, Piravom.

Italian actor in Malayalam film

'In Love with Kerala', Malayalam film to be directed by Aneesh J. Karinad, casting Italian actor Vincenzo Bocciarelli and Malayalam actress Mamta Mohandas to do the lead.

They are supported by Manoj K.Jayan, Thilakan, Nedumudi Venu, Jagathy and others. It will be a joint venture of Global movie makers and Tourism Movie Makers. Italian based Dr. Daisy Chacko has penned the screen play for the film.

Vincenzo dons the role of a painter from Italy, who is a great fan of Raja Ravi Varma and Mamta as the model for Ravi Varma paintings. The story tells the love between the painter and the model.

The shooting locations will be the main 15 tourism centres including Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam and Calicut. The film will profusely expose Kerala's culture, Tourism centres and art forms.

English and Malayalam version of this film will be shot and produced at the same time. Later the film will be translated into German, Italian, Russian, Spanish, Arabic, Hindi, Tamil, Kannada and Telugu languages.

It will be a 2010 release. Film will be screened in tourism centres also. Cultural minister M.A Baby inaugurated the production works at Thiruvananthapuram last week.

Actor Vijay enters politics!

The question whether Superstar Rajinikanth will enter politics has been debated for a very long time. But in the meantime, another star is all set to enter the realm of politics.

Ilayathalapathy Vijay launched Vijay Makkal Iyakkam at Pudukottai on Sunday. Though this is not a full-fledged political party, it is one step towards the same. Thousands of his fans were present at the occasion to support him.

It may be recalled that the actor unveiled his flag on his birthday last year. Vijay said that Vijay Makkal Iyakkam would be a testing ground for his fans and supporters.

Sukumari hospitalized following a heart attack

Reputed actress Sukumari was rushed to the NIMS hospital, Neyyattinkara, Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala on thursday morning following a heart attack. The actress underwent a heart surgery and is currently in a stable situation. As per the hospital authorities, the veteran actress is recuperating slowly.

Sukumari who has acted in about 2000 movies has been in the film industry for more than 60 years and has acted in both Malayalam and Tamil. Ironic as it may seem, Sukumari had lately inaugurated a function which was organized to felicitate the very same hospital for carrying out free heart surgeries for those who cannot afford that. Sources say Vimala Raman will soon appear in a two-piece bikini in her next Telugu film 'Lover Boy'.

Roma included in a financial fraud case

Sabarinath has been accused of cheating people of crores of rupees by taking deposits from people on the pretext iof offering them high returns.

As per the charge sheet filed by the Crime Branch last year, about 1200 people have been cheated and about 50 crores of rupees have been floated under the banner of several finincial institutions. All these have been carried out without the consent of the Reserve Bank of India. The names o 20 people including Sabarinath, Dr. Remani and Chandrmathi Amma have been cited in the list as prime accused.

Severe fever has reportedly made Mamta Mohandas to walk out of a couple of Malayalam projects.

A 35-year-old Bangalore based businessman was arrested here today for allegedly sending 'lewd sms' to Tamil actress Sneha, police said.

Cyber crime wing officials arrested Narayanaswamy, engaged in real estate business, at a restaurant here, police said, adding they were monitoring his activities following a complaint from the actress.

A case has been registered against him under Tamil Nadu Women Harassment Act, they said.

He has been remanded to 15-days judicial custody, they added.

Sri Devika is all set to become ‘Srimathi’. The betrothal ceremony of the actress with Rohit Ramachandran, a Mumbai based pilot, would take place on August 23 at Palakkad in Kerala. Their marriage is scheduled in early 2010.

Selvaraghavan, Sonia file for divorce

Tamil director Selvaraghavan and his actress wife Sonia Agarwal have filed for divorce with mutual consent in a family court Chennai on Wednesday.

After months of speculation in the media about their 'stormy' relationship, both have now decided to end their 32-month-old marriage. The two tied the knot in December 2006.

Since the divorce is sought by both parties, the process is expected to be smooth and brief.

According to media reports, their relationship hit rock bottom after Selvaraghavan started going around with Andrea Jermiah who is playing a lead role in his yet to be released Aayirathil Oruvan.

It was even reported in a section of media that Sonia had once visited her husband on the sets of his movie and slapped Andrea for trying to take away her husband.

Narain learns from his mistakes

Experience is the best guide, so they say. Experiences have had a deep influence on actor Narain and he has often said that they have helped him change his life for the better. Does Narain believe that he can reign supreme, as one of the most saleable stars in the industry? The answer is a flat 'No'. Narain can perform certain roles and that too within his limitations. Mollywood bans mobile phones during shoots

Mollywood's two influential associations Film Employees Federation of Kerala (FEFKA) and the Producers Association decided on Monday to ban the use of mobile phones during shoots of all Malayalam movies.

"Barring production executives and the producer, no one can use a mobile during the time of shooting. There is no problem in using it during shooting breaks," FEFKA general secretary B. Unnikrishnan told reporters, adding that the use of mobile phones had become a menace during shooting.

The decision came after a meeting between the two associations in Kochi to discuss means to reduce the cost of film production in face of dwindling profit margins. "The recommendations that were discussed included limiting the shooting period to a maximum of 45 days per film and an upper limit to the quantity of film roll that can be used," Unnikrishnan said.

He said a 14-member committee, which will also include the actors? group?the Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes?will look into all proposals discussed in the meeting. A final guideline would be ready after the committee clears the proposals.

Tamil film superstar Rajinikanth will release the audio of Eeram, produced by Shankar's 'S' Pictures and directed by newcomer Arivazagan.

The audio of the film is slated to be released Aug 9 in Chennai.

When Shankar reportedly sent a list of VIPs to Rajinikanth to select one who would be accepting the audio-cassettes and CDs of the film, the superstar is said to have struck down all the names and asked Shankar to call film director Sasikumar for the function, industry insiders said.

The film is reported to have overshot its estimated budget by several lakhs of rupees and this hasn't gone down well with Shankar. Arivazhagan, however, is said to have assured Shankar that the film would be worth spending for.

Parvathy Omanakuttan makes her debut in United 6

Yet another beauty queen is set to make her Bollywood debut. Miss India Parvathy Omanakuttan has been signed up for Vishal Aryan Singh's United 6.

After a brief spell as a model, the Kerala beauty is planning her Bollywood debut with United-6, which is to be directed by Aryan Singh.

Parvathy will be one among the five newcomers and the film will be shot within 50 days in Bangkok. The shooting is scheduled to start by August end. The film has music by Pritam and C G Patel and is produced under the banner of White House Productions.

After a good show at the Miss World contest, Parvathy has gotten a lot of Tamil and Telugu movie offers, but she declined them all saying that her aim was to make an opening in bollywood.

Actor Murali dies

Eminent Malayalam film actor and the chairman of Kerala Sangetha Nataka Academy, Murali (55) died here at a private hospital. He was hospitalized following chest congestion.

Murali was born in 1954 as the first child of P. Krishna Pillai and K. Devaki Amma in Kollam.

Murali had acted in more than 300 films.

He got his first Kerala State Film Award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in Amaram, directed by filmmaker Bharathan.

He later went on to win the Kerala State Film Award for Best Actor for his role in Aadharam. Murali again won the Kerala State Film Award for Best Actor for his powerful portrayal of Appumestri in Neythukaran, directed by Priyanandanan. The same role won him the National Film Award for Best Actor for the year 2002.

He is known for his powerful portrayal of roles in lead as well as character roles. He acted in a variety of roles ranging from lead roles to villain roles, and won accolades.

Murali debuted into films with the lead role in Njattadi, directed by Gopi. But the film never released. He then got chance to act in Chidambaram, directed by national award winning filmmaker Aravindan. He then acted in Meenamasathile Sooryan and Panchagni, directed by noted filmmakers Lenin Rejendran and Hariharan, respectively.

Panchagni got released first and it gave his the break in his acting career. He then quickly got established as a powerful actor in the Malayalam film industry. Adharam, directed by George Kittu was the first film to get released with Murali in lead role.

Some of his other notable films include Nee Ethra Dhanya, Dhanam, The King, Veeralippattu, Achan Kombathu Amma Varambathu, Meenamasathile Sooryan, Swarnam, and The Truth.

Actor Murali hospitalized

Actor and chairman of the Kerala Sangeeta Nataka Akademi Murali was admitted to a private hospital in the city on Tuesday night.

He was hospitalised following chest congestion. Mr. Murali was shifted to the intensive care unit. Hospital sources said that his condition was stable.

Mr. Murali who had acted in more than 300 films, had won the Bharat Award for his performance in ‘Neythukaran’ in 2002.

Nayantara in Malayalam film

Sources in the industry have said that the actress was approached by Suhasini Mani Ratnam with an offer to act in the mega project as Raavan?s wife Mandotharai.

However, the actress was unable to accept the offer, due to the minimal scope for her character in the film.

Nayantara said, ?Yes it?s true. Suhasini Mani Ratnam called me when I was in South Africa, shooting for Aadhavan, featuring Surya. They wanted me to do Mandodhari?s role in Raavan. However, I haven?t been able to accept the offer because of date problems and some other personal reasons. It?s a great honour to have got an offer from Mani sir.

But unfortunately, situations have stopped me from accepting it."

Chandramathi's anticipatory bail rejected

The anticipatory bail of third accused in the Total4U money swindling case Chandramathi was rejected by Kerala High Court today. Chandramathi, a former employee of SIDCO and a member of Film censor Board who is still at large was accused by Sabarinath Managing Director of Total4U financial firm of cheating him.

Sabarinath was arrested when after being on the run when his share broking cum financial institution closed down all of a sudden. Sabarinath who had swindled investors to the tune of Rs.5 billion along with some close associates arrested and remanded in the case after the racket was busted.

Sabarinath, who studied up to Class 12, fell out with his parents when they refused to give him money to start his business. He began as a financial consultant with a life insurance company and 18 months ago launched his firm Total4U. He used to offer Rs160,000 on an investment of Rs100,000 for three months. With high returns and prompt payments, Sabarinath won the confidence of many and his client base increased. But since last month, people stopped getting any money.

Sabarinath had a lavish lifestyle and owned many luxury cars. He even opened a recording studio in a prominent hotel in Kochi a month ago.

This should come as no surprise. When asked what is more important: glamour or performance, most heroines may not answer the question, but Meera Jasmine would surely vote for performance.

"Glamour is not a criterion for success in films. If a girl has a beautiful face, she can become a heroine and if she has a perfect physique, it would be an additional qualification. When you prove that you can perform well on screen, it would cover all other aspects," she was quoted as saying.

Talking about today's showing more interest in skin show and craving for size zero, Meera said, "Of course, a heroine who wants to remain in the acting profession for some time should show some interest in her physique and should do regular exercises. Though I don't crave for massages, I too take some precautions for a charming face and use natural spices like turmeric, etc."

According to the report, Nandini was a manager in a Kozhikode star hotel. She had allegedly shot Kavya's hot scenes during the pooja without her knowledge.
